i wander transparently with a flickering glow
the air is thick
each gasp crushes my chest in further
i turn to empty thoroughfares desperate to feel a single footstep
a faint voice or laughter echoing briefly
anything to release me from this asphyxiating hold
shadows of familiar voices paint the walls behind me
and swallow the ground until my footsteps falter
leaving me on my knees to cry out silently
until there’s nothing left to breathe
